It is not even 11 o'clock and it has already been a great day. I met a couple other guys (thanks Dad & Rick) at the church at 7:30 to get breakfast ready for the men that would gather at 8:00 and they started rolling in at 7:50. By 8:10 we had over 15 guys ready to eat and then head off to various job sites in the city.
This was our first time doing this so I was really pleased with the turnout. After some coffee, juice, eggs and toast we had a short devotional about the impact of doing good and then we headed off to put it into practice.
With the number of men that showed up we split up into groups of three and four and headed out to five different projects. We cleaned some gutters, raked some leaves, fixed a fence, washed the exterior of a home, pruned some hedges, moved some heavy furniture, and put in some insulation (and a couple guys stayed behind to clean up the dishes from breakfast)...and it was FUN.
I know that I would not have felt the same joy about having to do any ONE of those items at my own home, but when you put serving others into the mix, and doing it with some friends, the results are completely different.
Thank you to all of the guys that showed up and to the people that gave us an opportunity to serve.
We're going to do it all again on Saturday November 14th so keep the morning free, you'll be glad you did.
PS. Now I am headed to the mainland with Naomi for her 20th high school grad anniversary. Does anyone have some more gutters to clean? Please?
