I read this in my devotions this morning from Psalm 101:
My theme song is God's love and justice, and I'm singing it right now...
It got me thinking about the themes of my life. What they are, what I want them to be, what they should be etc.
By default, and lack of intention, certain themes are bound to be expressed. They probably won't be 'songs' you want to hear and I don't want to live that way.
The two ideas expressed in Psalm 101 - God's love and justice - are certainly great themes.
Other themes to consider could be: generosity, kindness, family, purity (this could be a long list)
I think our themes should be qualities, or truths, that are affirmed by God through His Word. This keeps them timeless, relevant, and life giving. It also ensures they are expansive enough to keep us growing, large enough to keep us humble, and attainable enough to give us peace.
So, let me ask you the same question I'm currently considering:
What are my themes? (I'm not asking you to answer for me, I'm asking you to consider for yourself, and then if you want to share, just leave a comment)
Oh, and by the the way, tomorrow night at our first ever Saturday night service we are going to be starting a whole series on God's love and justice. We have a guest speaker Jamie McIntosh from the International Justice Mission. It is going to be great (and challenging). Make sure you invite someone.
